False Egress

Color does not exist in isolation. It is always bound, by the object that carries it, the light that reveals it, the eye that perceives it. In this series, I attempt to momentarily sever those bonds. Through layered film and digital photography, light painting, and ink, I extract color from its context and set it in motion. But what appears to be escape is never truly that. The color finds no exit; it moves from one form of containment to another, ultimately arrested within the frame itself. False Egress is a meditation on the nature of freedom and the limits of free will. Every apparent liberation is revealed, on closer inspection, to be simply a new boundary. The door was never open. We only believed it was.
